CWI

Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), established in 1946, serves as the Netherlands' national research institute for mathematics and computer science, located at Amsterdam Science Park. As a key member of the NWO-I, CWI is highly regarded for its innovative research and strong international collaborations. The institute focuses on the synergy between mathematics and computer science, tackling real-world challenges in areas such as internet security, medical imaging, transport networks, and smart energy systems.

CWI’s legacy includes significant milestones, such as contributing to the establishment of the European internet and developing the Python programming language. With a vibrant community of 50 tenured researchers, 30 postdocs, and 65 PhD students from over 25 countries, CWI attracts top talent in the research field. It actively engages in various collaborations with Dutch universities and participates in European research programs, continually pushing the boundaries of knowledge and technology to benefit society and the economy.
