The GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS mission represents a significant advancement in India’s space capabilities, successfully launching the INSAT-3DS meteorological satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit on February 17, 2024. This three-stage satellite launch vehicle, measuring 51.7 meters and weighing 420 tonnes, incorporates cutting-edge technology, including a solid propellant first stage and a cryogenic third stage.

INSAT-3DS, a follow-on mission to previous meteorological satellites, enhances India’s ability to monitor and predict weather conditions on land and ocean surfaces, providing critical data for weather forecasting and disaster warning. The satellite is equipped with a six-channel imager, a 19-channel sounder, and a data relay transponder, ensuring comprehensive meteorological observations.

Funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the mission highlights collaboration among various Indian scientific departments, reinforcing India’s commitment to improving meteorological services. With its robust capabilities, INSAT-3DS is set to play a pivotal role in advancing India’s meteorological infrastructure and enhancing public safety through improved forecasting and early warning systems.
