Los Alamos National Laboratory

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) stands as a cornerstone in the realm of national security and scientific innovation. Established in 1943 to spearhead research for the Manhattan Project, LANL operates as a premier federally funded research and development center under the auspices of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Located in the picturesque high desert of northern New Mexico, just 35 miles from Santa Fe, the laboratory encompasses nearly 40 square miles and hosts around 900 facilities.

With a dedicated workforce of approximately 14,150 personnel, including scientists, students, and contract workers, LANL is instrumental in nuclear weapons design, production, and addressing global nuclear threats. The lab is known for its substantial contributions to various scientific fields, holding a remarkable tally of 186 R&D 100 awards and numerous other honors.
