SCDHEC is now SC DPH and SCDES

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has evolved into two separate agencies as of July 1, 2024. The newly formed South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) and the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) now oversee a wide range of programs aimed at safeguarding public health and enhancing environmental quality. DHEC's significant functions have been reallocated to these agencies, including their retail food program and dairy lab, which are now managed by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture.

SCDES focuses on environmental management, air quality monitoring, waste management strategies, and land reclamation. Meanwhile, DPH is dedicated to public health, managing public health clinics, disease prevention initiatives, maternal and child health, and emergency preparedness programs. Together, these agencies provide comprehensive resources and services designed to promote health and well-being for the residents of South Carolina.
